“In Conversation”
The Grover Gallery, Port Townsend, WA
April 29, 2006 — May 31, 2006
As a visual artist I primarily notice and engage in the world through imagery.
Surprisingly, I also listen. I listen to the cacophony of human conversation in crowded rooms, across social media, and in intimate moments of heartfelt searching between loved ones, dear friends and new acquaintances.
I also listen deeply to loons calling one another across a lake, coyotes across our fields, the neighboring sheep and the wind. I most certainly listen to the wind.
Finally, having been in a 48 year marriage with a musician, not surprisingly, I listen to the musical conversations within a band and between a solo performer and their audience.
The images in this show are my attempt to convey my deep engagement in, and appreciation for, the art of conversation.
“Conversations”
Artist Talk Friday, 5.22.26
Grover Gallery, Port Townsend
Choosing to sit in the presence of one’s visual art work and talk about it is a bit daunting. It is also a bit enticing. Mostly, when I am in a space exhibiting my work, I like to fade into the background and listen to what viewers have to say. As an artist who creates abstract or semi-abstract art I am fascinated by viewers perceptions of the piece, most often prompted by their personal experiences. For me, the viewers perception of the work is equally, or even more relevant than my own during its creation.
